Description

Yoga Explorers
Fun filled and chilled yoga classes for kids in the summer holidays!
In these exciting and engaging workshops children will learn some cool Yoga poses through stories,
songs and games. We’ll have a new yoga adventure every week in which we’ll be discovering some
unseen objects from the museum collection!
Yoga is a great way to get children more active. Challenging, yet accessible to all age groups it has been
proven to support concentration, focus and a range of other positive behaviours beyond the session
itself.
Yoga Mike is an experienced yoga teacher who has worked extensively with primary schools across the
North East and has a dedicated focus on improving children’s mental health and well-being.

We are running sessions for two age groups, 5-7 and 8-11 years. If siblings wish to attend who are close
in age but cross these age groups, we can accommodate this also.

Other Info

The sessions are held in our spacious Education room which is secure, away from the public and has its
own toilet facilities. Children can be dropped off and picked up from there.
Parents can leave children with facilitators for the duration of the workshop. Either Yoga Mike or one of
his expert team will deliver the sessions alongside a first aid trained member of museum staff.

FAQs

Q : What happens once I’ve booked on?
A : You will receive an email to confirm your booking which will have a link to complete the consent form.

You can follow our social media channel for updates and further info at https://www.facebook.com/yogamikegroup

Q : Does my child need to have any Yoga experience?
A : Absolutely not! Our sessions are all inclusive and appropriate for children who’ve done Yoga
before and also for beginners.

Q : Do parents have to attend with the children?
A : No, parents/guardians can drop the children off with us and return to pick them up at the end of
the session.

Q : Can siblings attend together? They are different ages?
A : If children are close in age and you think it would be appropriate for one of your children to join
a higher or lower age group, this can be accommodated. Just book their places in the same group
and let us know in advance if possible. Please email Zoe_wilson@middlesbrough.gov.uk if you have
any questions

Q : What is the difference in content between the two age group sessions?
A : The 5-7 age group will follow a story based session with simple poses and easy to follow games.
The 8-11 group will encounter more challenging poses and the sequences may be longer and a bit
more complex.

Q : Will my children be in a safe, secure space?
A : Yes, the museum’s education space is not accessible to the public and has its own toilet facilities.
Yoga Mike or a member of his team and a first aid trained member of museum staff will be present
at all sessions.

Q : What does my child need to bring with them?
A : A drink of water would be a good idea for when we have a small break. Water can be provided if
necessary. Mats and everything else are provided.

Q : Do I have to commit to every session?
A : No, children are welcome to come to any single session, a few sessions or all six. It works out
cheaper per session if you book the whole six as a bundle but if that’s not what you want to do,
please feel free to drop in and out as you would like.

Q : What are the arrangements with regards to Covid19 precautions?
A : The Dorman Museum is a Covid secure venue and operates under government guidelines. There
is a strict cleaning regime and hand sanitizer will be available at all times. Social distancing will be
encouraged and numbers limited further if guidelines deem it necessary.

Q : What if I can’t make it to the session I’ve booked?
A : The bookings are non-refundable but if enough notice is given there may be an opportunity to
swap so your child can attend another week (numbers permitting)

Q : What can I do while my child is doing Yoga Explorers?
A: If you would like to stay nearby, parents/guardians are very welcome to look around the museum
(which there is no charge for) or have refreshments in our café.

Q : Can I park outside the museum?
A : There is a small car park at the rear of the museum and also on road parking with a free 2 hour
limit close by.
